Who’s in Your Circle? The Power of Finding Your People

It’s been a little while since I last wrote — and what a few weeks it’s been. We’re almost three weeks into our new life in Kotor, Montenegro, with Boundless Life. Between the travel, jet lag, settling into a new routine, and even a round of Covid last week — it’s been a whirlwind.

But here’s the beautiful part: all the doubts I had before making this leap? They’ve melted away. Now that we’re here, I feel grateful every day that we chose this adventure. It already feels so right for us.

One of the biggest gifts of this move so far has been the community.

I’ve always been lucky to have wonderful people in my life all around the world. And here in Kotor, what feels especially powerful is being surrounded by families who share the same stage of life, values, and dreams that we do right now. There’s something unique about living side by side with people navigating similar choices — it feels both grounding and inspiring.

Last week, when Covid knocked us down, this community showed up. People we’d only known for a week sent messages, offered to grab groceries, even offered to help with the kids. It was so moving to feel that supported — especially in a brand-new place.

It reminded me of something I deeply believe: community isn’t just “nice to have.” It’s a foundation for health and wellbeing.

When we’re surrounded by people who get us, we feel safer, more seen, more encouraged. We’re less likely to isolate, and more likely to grow. Hard days feel a little lighter. Good days feel even better.

I see it in my kids, too. Especially my 10-year-old — the way he’s blossomed here, how quickly he’s formed close friendships, how supported he feels. It warms my heart. (If you’d like me to share more about how kids experience this, let me know — I’d be happy to cover it in another note.)

Of course, you don’t need to move across the world to find your people. Community can be built right where you are. If you already have that circle, cherish it. If not yet, maybe ask yourself: where could I begin?

✨ What do I value most right now?
✨ What do I love to do?
✨ Where might I meet others who love those things too?

It might be a yoga class, a book club, a hiking group — or even sending a message to someone you’ve been meaning to reconnect with. Little steps can grow into something really meaningful.

Because here’s the truth: we’re not meant to do life alone. And when we find our people, everything — from our health to our happiness — feels more possible.

So my encouragement for you this week: take one small step toward community. You never know how much it could change your life.

With love from Kotor 💛
